Information about the race and the rules of the Pitcairn Island Marathon
Preparing for an unforgettable race . . .
Be among the first people to run a marathon on Pitcairn Island

Start Information:
Race date: Saturday July 18, 2026
Start Number Distribution:
We will do this on our voyage to Pitcairn
Race Rules for Fair Competition
All runners must complete a minimum of 42.195 km on the lap course. The circuit will be measured the day before the race and the number of laps required will be calculated.
Wearing a GPS watch (Garmin, Apple, COROS, etc.) is mandatory for all runners during the race. Bring two watches if you have two. No GPS watch = no finish time. Internet service is now provided by Starlink since March 2024, so it should be reliable for GPS data. Exception: If local runners from Pitcairn do not own a GPS watch, this requirement will be exempted. We will use the running clock for their time.
After the race, each runner must submit their GPS time, distance covered, and bib number to the timekeeper, who will record each runner’s results.
Security and Health:
Because there is not much flat space on Pitcairn Island, and because most trails on the island are mud and rocky, we will run a small lap course multiple times. We don’t want anyone getting injured.
There is a single, modern, and well-equipped medical clinic on the island staffed by a general practitioner.
In the event of a serious medical emergency, evacuation from the island might be necessary. Visitors to Pitcairn are responsible for covering the costs of any medical services that they receive before their departure from the island. ALL PARTICIPANTS MUST have travel insurance INCLUDING MEDICAL EVACUATION Insurance of at least US $500,000. Evidence of such insurance must be supplied to the race director before departure to Pitcairn.
Road Safety:
There is one paved road in Pitcairn Islands. There are some cars. Most vehicles are 4-wheel quads. Our race route might be sharing the road with some vehicles.
Vaccinations:
COVID-19 vaccinations or rapid antigen tests (RATs) are no longer required to board the Silver Supporter or to enter Pitcairn Island.
Yellow fever: If you are coming from a country where yellow fever is a transmission risk, then you need to have a Yellow Fever vaccination. Bring Proof of Yellow Fever Vaccine just in case. https://nathnacyfzone.org.uk/factsheet/65/countries-with-risk-of-yellow-fever-transmission
Other recommended vaccinations:
Hepatitis A
Hepatitis B
Tetanus
These vaccinations should be updated.
